Just minutes ago at Sony’s GamesCom 2009 press conference, Kaz Hirai came onstage to announce that the long-rumoured PS3 Slim will hit retail in the first week of September, with the same features and functionality as the current PS3 . The overhauled system still comes with a 120GB HDD, but is 33 percent smaller and 36 percent lighter than existing models. Not only that, but it’ll consume 34% less power. It’s set to retail for $299 USD, 299 euros, and 29,980 yen. Starting tomorrow, all current PS3s will sell at the same price point.
The release date for the PS3 Slim varies by region, but will be in stores everywhere by September 11.

I just picked up a second PS3,for my home Entertainment center and thought I would just use it as a blue ray player but I was wrong,I thought this was going to be ugly next to my fat ps3 but I have really started to like this version a lot better, its so much quieter than my 1st gen ps3 and lighter.I have to say this is by far the best piece of home theater gear i have bought in a long time,i wanted to get a stand alone Blue Ray player but for 100$ more you get so much more.Excellent product Sony and it Decodes both True -HD and DTs-Master which is awesome.
